Karen J. Porter

Karen J. Porter concentrates her practice in the areas of bankruptcy law and litigation; creditor’s rights and commercial collection; business workouts and liquidations, and tax collection law. Ms.Porter has a diverse client base of large corporations, lending institutions, collection agencies and small businesses. Ms. Porter has more than twenty five years representing creditors and debtors in every aspect of bankruptcy and commercial law.
Ms. Porter was admitted to practice in Michigan in 1982 and in Illinois in 1983. Ms Porter is a member of the Trial Bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She served as law clerk to United States Bankruptcy Judge Thomas James for two years after graduating from lawschool. Ms. Porter then worked as a staff attorney for the judges of the Bankruptcy Court of the Northern District of Illinois for the next eighteen months where she gained additional experience working on complex chapter 11 cases and preparing opinions for publication in the Bankruptcy Reporter. Ms. Porter joined the law firm of Rosenthal and Schanfield in 1986 as an associate. Since leaving that firm, Ms. Porter remained in private practice representing the interests of debtors and creditors in bankruptcy and commercial law matters.
Ms. Porter is a recognized leader in the legal profession. Ms.Porter is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association. She has been a member of the Bankruptcy Executive Council of the Commercial Law League of America. Ms. Porter is a faculty member of the Illinois Professional Responsibility Institute which teaches law practice management to practicing attorneys. Ms. Porter is also associated with other civic organizations in the City of Chicago
