Maurice Grant
Principal
Maurice Grant concentrates in the areas of business and commercial litigation, real estate, and employment discrimination. Mr. Grant has extensive experience representing Fortune 500, governmental entities, medium and small businesses, and individuals.
Prior to founding Grant Schumann, Mr. Grant started the Law Offices of Maurice Grant. Earlier, he worked as an associate specializing in commercial, real estate, and employment litigation at the law firm now known as Much, Shelist, Freed, Denenberg, Ament & Rubenstein, P.C. After law school, Mr. Grant spent a year as a judicial law clerk for Justice Calvin C. Campbell of the Illinois Appellate Court.
Mr. Grant served as an adjunct faculty member at the Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago Kent School of Law where he taught Legal Drafting General Practice to second year law students.
Mr. Grant is a former member of the Board of Managers for the Chicago Bar Association and is a former Chair of the Solo and Small Firm Committee of the Chicago Bar Association. He currently serves as Pro Bono General Counsel for the Chicago Bar Association. Mr. Grant also served on the Board of Trustees of Living Word Christian Center and the Board of Directors for the Illinois Facilities Fund (the largest not-for-profit lender in Illinois). Mr. Grant currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Chicago State University Foundation and Blair Capital Management. Mr. Grant currently serves as Chairman of the Board for the Abraham Lincoln Centre.
Mr. Grant graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1984. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from DePaul University. Mr. Grant also attended graduate school at DePaul University majoring in European and African History. Mr. Grant is a licensed member of the Illinois Bar, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Seventh Circuit Court and the United States Supreme Court.
